Alcohol Associated With Smaller Brain Volume
p>The more alcohol someone drinks, the smaller their total brain volume, according to a new report.
p>Brain volume decreases with age at an estimated rate of 1.9 percent per decade, accompanied by an increase in white matter lesions. Lower brain volumes and larger white matter lesions also occur with the progression of dementia and problems with thinking, learning and memory.
p>Researchers studied nearly 2,000 adults between 1999 and 2001. Participants underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a health examination, and reported the number of alcoholic drinks they consumed per week. Although men were more likely to drink alcohol, the association between drinking and brain volume was stronger in women./p>img src=”wild>/aggbug.aspx?PostID=71190″ width=”1″ height=”1″>br>a runat=”server” href=’/blogs/public_blog/Alcohol-Associated-With-Smaller-Brain-Volume-71190.aspx#comments’> img runat=”server” border=”0″ alt=wild>
