Is Genetically Engineered Insulin Safe?
p>The use of genetic modification in some medical treatments — especially insulin production — has been touted as evidence for the safety of GM food. But according to some, GM produced insulin has very different effects than other kinds.
p>Some evidence suggests that GM or “human” insulin results in poorer blood sugar control. There are many other reported negative effects from GM insulin, including loss of hypoglycemic warnings for diabetics, leading to coma and death in some cases. These important natural bodily signal indicate that blood glucose levels have dropped too low. They often re-appear when a diabetic starts using animal insulin.
